Animal Rights and the Bible

Mars Hill Forum #9, 25 October 1994

The guest for this forum was Dr. Mark Wessels, executive director of
the International Network for Religion and Animals (INRA). INRA is an
ecumenical organization, founded in the mid-1980s by Catholic laywoman
Dr. Virginia Bee.

Dr. Wessels posed these questions to John Rankin:

  1. If all things belong to Christ as written in Colossians 1:15-20, what moral
responsibility do we have to the non-human creation?
  2. What is the remedy for cruelty to animals?
  3. What practical and spiritual action can we take now to prepare for
“the peaceable kingdom” prophesied in Isaiah 11:6-9?
